HORSE, DOLL AND BOOK SET - Cheryl White, who was only seventeen when she broke barriers to become the first Black female jockey in American history, is the focus of this set.
Cheryl was a pioneer, but also a torchbearer in the long legacy of Black contributions to thoroughbred racing, a sport that was built on the labor of enslaved Black people. The INCLUDED BOOK is a 208-page volume that was inspired by the true story of Cheryl White, the first Black female jockey, who raced to the finish line on her horse, Jetolara.
Cheryl has been studying thoroughbreds at her family's horse-racing stables since she was old enough to ride on the shoulders of her father, a famous horse trainer. She loves horses and has always wanted to be a jockey. However, one problem stood in her way – she is a girl, and there has never been a Black female jockey in history.
The Freedom Series, which this set is a part of, stands for one of the strongest attributes ascribed to horses – Freedom! The freedom to go on adventures, Explore and dream. Breyer's Freedom Series was designed to capture the power that only horses can deliver.
